Very mild, dry conditions, quite cool at vintage produced fruit with fresh pungent characters linked with positive aromas of malt, often associated with Meursault styles. Spicy wood has integrated. A delicate richness gives a full soft palate finished with fine balancing acid.
The wine has fresh pungent fruit characters on the nose linked with the positive aroma of malt which is often associated with the best Meursault styles of White Burgundy. There is a little spicy wood yet to fully integrate with these developing perfumes. On the palate there are again malt overtones combined with complex fruit and wood characters. A delicate richness gives the wine a full soft palate, which is finished with a fine balancing acid. Though the wine is not yet fully developed there is good length and lingering flavours. We believe that this wine whilst drinking well now, will benefit with at least three years cellar ageing.
Broad and spicy, with spiky acidity, so it’s not especially harmonious. A nice wine that lost most of its charm. Drink now.Wine Spectator comments (as at November 1999) 82 points
Again, marvellous colour; a tangy, smokey, gun flint bouquet with the mix of faintly vegetal and grapefruit character of Burgundy is accompanied by complex cashew notes. The palate is still fresh and lively, with great grip and focus, and a long, lingering finish. Yet another of the wines to have as much affinity with Burgundy as Australia. Shows a cool and late vintage.James Halliday comments 5 stars - (tasted Feb 2001)
